I secure my swimming pool, it is my responsibility

You are the owner of a swimming pool or you have the project to install a swimming pool in your backyard, you must know that there are standards to be respected in terms of safety. Every year the Lifesaving Society and the Coroner’s Office mourn drowning deaths among young children.
The City is responsible for enforcing the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Regulations within its territory. By September 30, 2027, all residential swimming pools in Quebec, regardless of their installation date, must comply with the new safety standards.
In 2021, the Quebec government made amendments to the Residential Pool Safety Regulations to ensure that all residential pools are safe to prevent drowning. These amendments stipulate that all pools must have been brought up to standard in accordance with current regulations.
These changes primarily aim to control access to residential pools through simple measures:
Main Requirements
✅ Compliant and secure fencing
✅ Gates with safety devices
✅ Secure patio doors and windows
✅ No openings or features that facilitate access or climbing
Remember that a permit is required before installing a pool.

It is important to know that these bylaw amendments eliminate any concept of grandfathering rights regarding pool safety.
