La culture et le divertissement irlandais étaient au rendez-vous au 54e « Shannon Irish Show » le 11 mars dernier au Centre communautaire de Shannon !
Les organisateurs sont heureux d’avoir accueilli un public aussi merveilleux et joyeux ! Chaque siège a trouvé preneur et nombreux sont ceux de tous âges, vêtus de vert, qui attendaient avec impatience le début du spectacle !
Nous avons été ravis cette année d’honorer Larry Hamilton, un merveilleux Irlandais, un interprète dévoué et un partisan constant du « Shannon Irish Show » depuis sa création en 1966. C’est lors de ce premier spectacle que Larry, 11 ans, a dansé une gigue et est rapidement devenu la vedette des prochains spectacles. Passionné de danse depuis son plus jeune âge, Larry a d’abord appris ses pas auprès des résidents locaux de Shannon, Elmer Thompson et Harold Kack, puis a développé son propre style qui, au fil des ans, a influencé un nombre incalculable de danseurs de gigue. Larry est très rapidement devenu un favori de la foule à chaque spectacle avec des rappels demandés par le public !
En tant que jeune adulte, Larry a également démontré son talent vocal, chantant dans le spectacle de 1973 à ce jour. Il n’est donc pas étonnant qu’en 2019 Larry ait été choisi comme récipiendaire du Prix du patrimoine de la MRC de la Jacques-Cartier dans la catégorie Porteurs de tradition, tant pour sa danse que pour son chant. Larry est l’une de ces perles rares qui, au cours des 54 années d’existence du spectacle, a toujours offert généreusement ses talents avec une habileté admirable et une grande humilité, et nous sommes tous extrêmement fiers de lui !

Irish culture and entertainment were on the agenda at the 54th Shannon Irish Show!
The coordinators were so happy to welcome such a wonderful and happy audience! Every seat was filled with people of all ages dressed in green and anxiously awaiting the start of the show!
We were thrilled this year to honour Larry Hamilton, a wonderful Irishman, dedicated performer, and constant supporter of the Shannon Irish Show since its inception in 1966. It was at this first show that 11-year-old Larry danced a jig and quickly became a highlight of future shows. Passionate about dance from a very early age, Larry first learned his steps from local Shannon residents Elmer Thompson and Harold Kack, and then developed his own style which, through the years, influenced countless numbers of step dancers. Larry very quickly became a crowd favorite at every show with encores being demanded by audiences young and old alike!
As a young adult, Larry also demonstrated his vocal talent, singing in the show from 1973 to this day. It is no wonder then that in 2019 Larry was the recipient of the MRC de la Jacques-Cartier Heritage Awards in the Tradition Bearers category, both for his dancing and his singing. Larry is one of those rare gems who, over the 54-year existence of the show, has always generously offered his talents with admirable skill and great humility, and we are all exceptionally proud of him!
